Her Spirit 2021 - Santa Fe, NM
This extraordinary adventure was everything I wanted it to be and more. I made meaningful connections even before the check-in and the evening reception. I felt kindred spirits there. I was impressed by Beth Broday’s keynote address. After that, I was 100% sure that I belonged.

Eager to begin the sessions the next day, I spent time with my schedule folder, marking all the sessions I wanted to attend over the next three days. The content seemed very well thought out, allowing me to understand the nuts & bolts of what it means to be a seriously dedicated writer. I was inspired by all the real-life experiences shared.

I got to challenge myself, stepping out of my comfort zone by participating in a table-read and stepping up to the microphone to share some of my own written words. That was my first open mic experience. In both instances, I felt warmly received and welcomed.

The bonuses:

- The beautifully stunning LaFonda Hotel. Impressive artwork hanging from it is walls. Accommodating staff.

- Meeting and hugging Rebecca, Pamela, and Michelle

- My purple Her Spirit mask and fleece blanket.

- Early morning meditation and yoga activities in a beautiful room where I could see the sunrises. Jane Sibbett’s Dancing Hands session felt like a once-in-a-lifetime event. It affected me deeply.

- Visiting and taking photos of the lovely Cathedral Basilica of Saint Frances of Assisi, across the street from the LaFonda.

After returning home to Chicago, I couldn’t wait to resume writing. I was excited, hoping for some of that amazing experience to show up in my work. I was not disappointed, because the words were pouring out, I couldn’t type them out fast enough. I know that I am a better writer because of Her Spirit 2021. I plan to attend again. The value of the entire experience is priceless.

About Me

I am a storyteller that happens to be a woman of color. In this day and time, our stories need to be heard and honored. As I continue my journey as a writer, I must support and nurture others hoping to find their voices. It is my way of paying it forward because I was fortunate that I was seen and heard at a time when I believed no one cared.

Story Moves Us benefits The Rainbow Fund by building scholarship resources supporting Diversity and Writers with Disabilities.

Since its inception in 2020, the Storyteller Foundation has provided scholarships to over one hundred emerging writers. The foundation supports voices that encourage, uplift, and educate, creating a more unified and sustainable world.

In the past two years, the foundation has provided specific help for writers who are working mothers, and writers who are cancer survivors.

Our 2022-2023 scholarship program provides mentorships to emerging writers in the BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled sectors. Mentorship occurs online, in person, and through onsite retreats.
